About you

You will be a strong Python developer with expertise in data analytics. It is likely that you have an operational/systems background, which helps you understand deep-level network functions and processes - such as packet sniffing, DNS, etc. Already comfortable with AWS and writing Python code with effective testing, it would be highly beneficial if you have used the AWS Kinesis product suite (including Kinesis Data Analytics), Athena, S3 data lakes and the like. You must have previous experience turning data from a variety of inputs into actionable insights with tools such as (or similar to) QuickSight. You will be comfortable with the creation of dashboards and APIs which empower others to make informed decisions and build interconnected systems. You will understand what goes into creating a great API and the design pitfalls to avoid. Since our legacy environments are coded in PHP, some level of understanding is desirable, to assist with migration of functionality, as is an understanding of XML.

You will be part of an Agile/Lean squad with full ownership of a platform functional area. We operate a “you build it, you own it” mentality. An out-of-hours rota operates and you will seek (along with the rest of your squad) to minimise any chance of callout.

    Experience and skills that will help you succeed 

      • Strong Python skills and at least an intermediate knowledge of PHP is a must have 
      • Experience of AWS and data analytics is desirable
      • Demonstrable previous experience of designing and developing APIs and microservices
      • Working knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB and good query practices would be an added value
      • Understanding the fundamentals of good API design and code testing would be useful

      The Process

      • Our process will consist of an initial conversation with a member of our People team to make sure your expectations of the role are aligned with the business needs. There will then be a competency-based, technical  interview with the Hiring Manager and the Head of Infrastructure.
      • We are working remotely at the moment but will be taking a hybrid approach post-pandemic.
      • We aim to keep you informed throughout the process so we will be communicative and transparent throughout (which also happens to be one of our company values)! ☺
